Where Bomb Squads And EOD Teams Train Together to Stay Mission-Ready.
Test your skills in operational environments alongside fellow public safety bomb squads and military explosive ordnance disposal units.
What is Raven’s Challenge?
An annual interagency counter-IED exercise led by the U.S. Army and ATF, Raven’s Challenge brings together public safety and military bomb technicians for realistic, scenario-based training focused on coordination, performance, and readiness.

Challenge Objectives
During Raven’s Challenge, public safety bomb squads and military EOD units train together to:
1
Share tactics, techniques, and procedures

2
Build stronger teamwork and communication

3
Operate in dynamic, live-fire training environments

The exercise is funded by the Department of Army and led by the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Personnel from multiple agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Department of the Defense, the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration, and state and local public safety agencies throughout the country all provide manpower resources to assist in completion of the exercise.
Feedback From The Field
“So far Raven’s has been great. The hands on challenges that have been presented to us have all been out-of-the-box, we need to think out-of-the-box to solve them. When I go back to Portugal, I’m going to be communicating to my chain of command what I’ve been taught here, what I see, try to introduce new stuff. And on a personal level, meeting almost 100 DoD experts has been a great experience
and I hope in the future I can come back here.”
– Joao Simoes, Portuguese Special Police
“What this does – Raven’s Challenge – is it forces you to come together and exchange ideas and you may try this, you may try this, and find out what works.”
– Jon Treadway, Rapides Parish
